Veronica Merritt, from New York, took to TikTok to share what she made her children for dinner using food she had leftover from the month – but people were divided
A mum has received some harsh criticism over the dinner she made her 11 children.
Veronica Merritt, from New York, shared what she made her kids for dinner on her TikTok, @thismadmama.
In the video, she firstly cooked the pasta in boiling water, while adding 12 sticks of garlic bread to the oven.
After cooking the vegetables and adding a tomato sauce to the pasta, she then plates up the meal for her family.
She said: “For tonight’s dinner I decided to go with just a simple, meatless pasta with some sauce and some frozen veggies and some garlic bread.”
While many parents praised her efforts, a few others were concerned by how much butter she used on the vegetables and the lack of protein.
Since being posted, the video has racked up more than 54,000 likes and almost 2,000 comments.
One person said: “No seasoning at all.”
Another wrote: “Why eat veggies at all? Just eat butter.”
A third commented: “There is no protein. It’s all carbs,” to which Veronica replied saying: “Look at breakfast/ lunch yesterday. We already had protein. No need to have it 3x.”
Someone else put: “I’d still be starving… that was one scoop of pasta.”
Veronica responded saying her children are allowed more if they want it, “but babies tend to waste.”
“Four of my kids are six or younger,” she clarified.
Veronica was forced to address the criticism in the comments, where she said: “Before telling me I can’t cook, please see my other videos.
“This was an ‘end of the month cleaning out old stuff’ kind of dinner.'”
Others rushed to defend the mum, as one person said: “Y’all really disregarded the fact she’s cooking for 13 people. She doesn’t have time to cook a 5-star meal every day.”
While another added: “Literally where are all of these negative comments coming from??? Some kids have parents who DON’T care to FEED THEM. These children are blessed.”
Veronica was just 14 and in ninth grade when she found out she was three months pregnant with her first child Victoria, who is now 21 years old.
Her son Andrew, now 16, came five years later during her first marriage.
After her first marriage broke down, she married Marty, 37, with who she had seven more children.
Marty and Veronica had Adam, 15, Mara, 13, Dash, 12, Darla, 10, Marvelous, eight, Martalya, six, Amelia, four, Delilah, three, and Donovan, one, as well as the child she is currently expecting.
